I realize that different people like Fisher Price -- whether the Loving Family pieces or another one of the Fisher Price worlds -- for different reasons than I do myself. And that's fine, of course. It's even fine to dislike Fisher Price, although I can't imagine that many people actually detest Fisher Price toys. Toys that promote creativity and cooperation are among the unadulterated good things in this world. I (like many people, I would think) have a personal fondness for the Fisher Price toys that I grew up with. But I am almost equally fond of the Loving Family people and their entire world -- no doubt that is partly because my daughter used to play with them with her best friend. I have come to believe that the Loving Family toys are a truly ingenious combination of the realistic and the abstract. They come with built-in stories -- but buying stories with endings that only the children themselves can write.
