Antique French Casket Jewel Box from France for holding jewelry, trinkets, coins, good luck charms and other small collectibles.

Souvenir collectible from St. Malo, France which depicts a general view of the village, the quais, and the historic port.
The picture itself is most likely an buying early photograph sealed inside the top by dark gold foiled paper.

This casket jewel box is open on four sides for viewing and is held in place by ormolu trim, probably brass ormolu, in a pattern much like metal lace. The top glass is mitered, similar to beveled glass but more difficult to execute.

Hinged lid.

Inside the jewel box is an upholstered pillow-like base made of button tufted silk, like upholstery. The silk is gray and has frayed over time though it is still complete. There were originally 5 silk covered buttons inside the box.

From St. Malo, France in the famous Cotentin region. Known as the jumping off point for French pirates. Also well-known for intense fighting during WW2.
