Description

Product Name: Handmade ceramic buying art tile

This tile represents a couple of snowy dark eyed juncos . These active birds are frequent visitors to our backyard feeder and birdbath buying.
This is an unglazed tile which has a soft almost leathery sheen leaning towards more of a matte finish. You will receive a tile similar to the one in the photo but not necessarily the one showing, minus all the background props.
This piece is a little under 4x8 and is ready to hang with a drywall screw or a simple nail with a head.
Each tile is handmade here at Stardust Clayworks. First a piece of clay is rolled out into a slab from which I trim out the initial outer tiles dimensions. The cut out tile shape is then set aside to stiffen up . Once it has dried a bit the design is traced or drawn onto the clays surface. The design is then sculpted into the face of the tile. The sculpting usually takes a couple days to complete in between working on other tile designs simultaneously. A plaster mold is then made of this original tile so that duplicates can produced. After a tile comes out of the mold it is stamped on the reverse with our logo and a hanging notch is carved as well. The tile is then set aside to dry completely. Once dry ,color is hand painted using terra sigillatta infused with mason stains. At this point the tile will get a first of two firings. After the first firing , stain and additional surface treatment is applied. The second firing sets the stains and the tile can now be hand buffed using a blend of coconut oil and bees wax.
