**About Ambrosia maple wood**

Ambrosia maple is the name of any soft maple that has been infested by the ambrosia beetle. The tiny black holes on buying the wood are where the beetles burrowed into the tree, introducing bacteria and fungus by carrying it on their feet which in turn causes the flares of colour to develop as the sap circulates the fungus.

Ambrosia maple is not available commercially. Chain stores cannot use this unique wood, because every beetle has a mind of its own, and every piece of ambrosia stands alone as a work of art.
