Batik Cotton Sarong Fabric Fully Handmade Indonesian Batik buying Kain Tulis Textile from Pekalongan Indonesia Batik Hand Drawn damaged

A very beautiful, old, hand made Batik from Pekalongan in Central Java - about 60 years old. Tulis is the Indonesian word used to describe a batik that is totally handmade by "kanting" (pouring) the wax onto the material. It is not made by stamp or by mechanically printing onto the material. This is the traditional and most labour intensive way of making a batik.

Pekalongan is a famous batik centre on the north coast of Java where the Chinese first introduced synthetic dyes and floral motifs. buying This one has a classic floral spray with birds, butterflies and pheasants in red, blue and green on a very white background. It is on nice soft cotton and is in very good condition but does have one L shaped tear that has been repaired. Each leg of the tear is about 6cm - see photos.


A Kain is a piece of material about 2 or a bit more metres in length. This one is 105cm high by 232cm long.
