Antique Sterling Silver Child's Trinket Dish - circa 41 grams - Stamped 11 SM & Co with Lion Passant (England), Shield (Chester), M (1912) - Duck Stamped Lion Passant (England) M (1912)

This Sampson Mordon (SM & Co) small dish was most probably made for a child. The duck used for buying a handle. It has a large solder mark(shown in picture 7) which could have been from a repair or the duck being added later.

SM & Co was founded in 1815 by Sampson Mordon. It was in existence for almost 140 years being passed through the generations and then the patents were eventually sold in 1941 after the factory had been bombed out during the war. They were most known for their mechanical pencil designs and patents, though they did produce a small line of gold and silver novelty items.
