The Complete Works buying of James Whitcomb Riley, 10 Volume Set, 1916 Memorial Edition, Harper & Brothers, Ill by Howard Chandler Christy

DESCRIPTION: Complete 10 volume set. Memorial Edition. Published by Harper & Brothers New York and London in 1916. Beautiful pen and ink illustrations by Howard Chandler Christy throughout each book. Colored illustrations at the begging of each volume by Ethel Franklin Betts.

Maroon or wine red colored linen-textured hardcovers with gold colored flower in a circle on cover and design on outside of the spine. Also features a blind stamp edge line around each front cover. Gold wording on spine is slightly faded. All 10 volumes had tight spines and appear to not have been read. I find no markings or writing on the pages or the inside front pages. Gold gilt edges along the top edge of pages on all 10 volumes. Pages show slight yellowing and a few age spots here and there.

Very minimal shelf wear to edges of hardcovers. Volume #1 has some ink spots on the outside spine. What appears to be a torn page (along the top) in volume 1 in the photos, was a piece of another book. It looks like someone placed it there as a bookmark. The page that it's marking has been discolored by that bookmark (approx 1" by 1").

This would make a wonderful gift to yourself or a loved one. It would also be a great addition to your antique book collection. My grandmother taught school in the 1930s and had a large collection of antique books. She continued to collect books after she retired from teaching.
