Of tropical origin rattan was introduced in France in the eighteenth century. Under the second empire, the first black rustic baskets appeared in affluent circles, it was democratized and at the end of the 19th century was used in all circles.
The rustic basket we offer is the small model that served as a handbag or book basket.
Oval shape with its lid that fits together to increase its capacity and its two mobile handles so as not to clutter.
The very old "rustic" basket is in good condition for its age. It lacks the top of the closure to block the lid and some strands of rattan of the decor but the basket is still very solid.
