Stunning early Victorian black lace mourning lappet with scrolls, flowers, hearts, and dragonfly designs! An incredibly fine, airy black lace.

Lappets came to fashion in the 1840's; marking a decided shift from the simpler mob caps of the decades prior. buying Lappets were often made from ornate lace and were affixed to the head with a comb. This one is made in black to conform to the strict social dress code for the mourning period. A very special piece for the Victorian fashion collector!

5 ½" wide at its widest near there ends, tapering to 4 ¾" wide at he mid-lengths and center. 60" long.
