This magnificent painting has heartfelt meaning to the artist. This is a Traditional San Ildefonso Pueblo Deer Dancer. The artist danced this dance for the Pueblo's Feast for many years. It is a strong mans dance. The Pueblo's Feast is always held on January 23rd buying of each year. In the background is the Sacred Black Mesa and a yucca plant is also pictured. This painting represents strength, courage and endurance.
I am from San Ildefonso Pueblo, have been painting for over 40 years and I am one of many artistically gifted Great Grandchildren of famed Potter Maria Martinez.
