Description

Product Name: Rare Custom Heisey Crystal c. 1921 Tall Footed Blank Revere Candy Jar #1193 Hand buying Painted with Gilding and Diamond H

Heisey manufactured this particular jar largely from the 1920's through the 1930's. This product number was only manufactured as a crystal piece, so while it is a compote, it was made with leaded crystal rather than the more common pressed glass, offering greater durability, weight, value, and overall quality that is found in crystal pieces.
This line was usually produced with etchings, but blanks such as this were sometimes manufactured and intended to then be custom painted by secondary designers. It would appear that this was done with this one. I have not found an identical piece to this, but I think it most closely resembles a color scheme that was commonly found with their Greek Key Pattern.
The buying product number is 1183, which seems to be less common than the paneled 465 piece, which is similar, but has distinctly different features and can be found for sale, en masse, online.
This jar is their 1/2 lb. size, which measures 9.5” tall with the lid in place.
The lid is recessed into the bowl, which has the Diamond H embossed on the bottom inside. The gold accent appears to be done in 22kt gold gilding, with a thick Cobalt Blue enamel band around the bowl, applied to the inside, giving it the quality of a reverse painted piece as well.
However, I imagine out of necessity, the finial on the lid is gilded on the outside. The gilding is worn in various places, although for its age, it is remarkably intact compared to most gold accent work, which tends to not hold up so well. The blue enamel still seems solid and vibrant.
This piece is really something, as I've seen the color scheme on other depression era glass jars, but not Heisey. I believe it may have been custom ordered to match someone's preexisting set made by another glass company during that time.
