Description

Product Name: Rare, Antique buying Engraving, Brilliant Proof, Lord Campbell, 19th Century, Victorian, Perfect Gift for Serious Printmaker

Rare BRILLIANT ENGRAVING PROOF: Lord Campbell. Victorian. This is an incredibly great antique engraving. Please see the scans to note amazing technique. Wonderful gift for a serious print maker as these are very rare. Below the image is written: Lord Frederick Campbell Brilliant Proof before letters. There is very faint writing in pencil at the very bottom that starts, "From", but we cannot interpret what it says.

Final version by artist James Stow; engraved by Henry Edridge; published by George Perfect:

It was done on a heavy board. It is 13" x 9.75".

Condition of the actual print is wonderful.
The border was handled as this was a working product prior to printing the engraving.
I did the research awhile ago...and this is what I found by googling:

Frederick Archibald Vaughan Campbell, 3rd Earl buying Cawdor (1847-1911) was a British Conservative politician. He served briefly as First Lord of the Admiralty under Balfour. Educated at Eton College and Christ Church, Oxford. He was Conservative member of Parliament for Carmarthenshire from 1874 to 1885. He succeeded to the Earldom in 1898. ...He did lots of things...including being Chairman of the Great Western Railway from 1895 to 1905 and is credited with greatly improving service. He was also President of the Institute of Naval Architects.
