Description

Product Name: Antique Glass Jars, Jammers, Angel and Crown Kerr buying Jelly Glasses, Eggnog Glasses

This is a set of six jelly jars produced by A. H. Kerr & Co. of Sand Springs, OK. These are referred to as "jammers" as they were jelly glasses that could also be used as drinking glasses. They weren't very popular so are not found as often as the regular jelly jars. This is a set of six with each having a different angel design in the bottom. To me, these are pure folk art as there are a documented 58 different patterns of the crown and angel design molded in the bottom. The Kerr family took the design from their coat of arms, but it is reminiscent of New England gravestone carvings, and apparently the mold-makers each added their own variation of hair, wings, face, shape, gown, star and crown, which is so unusual in a mass produced product. These are lovely at Christmas propped and laid on their sides with a votive inside or just used as eggnog glasses. The design is molded outside the jar and each has an etched band around the top. These do show age and wear, and each measures 3 3/4" by 2 3/4" diameter at the top. I only have four lids and these are not identical and show wear. One has a chip on the edge that is not sharp and these buying do have mold marks.
