Outstanding very early Polished Chintz sewing bag, Circa 1820 or earlier, ornate button ornaments and wooden handles buying, This is a lovely polished chintz fabric bag most likely used for knitting.
This is a lovely polished chintz fabric bag most likely used for knitting or sewing. It consists of an early 1800's printed fabric that is folded and seamed to create a large bag. It is gathered on two wooden embroidery hoops that are covered with the same fabric. It is drawn up on the ends and fastened with a fancy metal button and fabric rosette. The motif of the buttons is a Greek dressed woman lounging in a boat. The fabric is in exceptional condition considering it's age. There is all over fading to the buying brown but the original color can be seen in the last photo which is of the inside of the bag which is totally lined with the same fabric. There is a little wear to the fabric surrounding the handles. The hoops measure 12" x 6" and the overall bag measures 17" x 15". Please check out my store for other early sewing related items and thanks for looking.
