1810s Antique buying English Georgian Sterling Silver Fiddle Sugar Tongs, Presented is a nice pair of English Georgian sterling silver sugar tongs made by John.

Description

Product Name: 1810s Antique buying English Georgian Sterling Silver Fiddle Sugar Tongs

Presented is a nice pair of English Georgian sterling silver sugar tongs made by John Robertson II and John Watson. The tongs have a simple smooth finish design. They have not been monogrammed or engraved.

The tongs are hallmarked on the inside of the arms with the lion passant for sterling silver, the city mark for Newcastle, the duty mark of King George III's head, and a maker's mark of IR over IW for John Robertson & John Watson. This partnership entered their mark in 1811 and was active until around 1820. buying

The tongs are in great condition overall. There are some pockmarks to the silver on one side, but this does not appear to be a repair, and is certainly not a monogram removal. I am not sure what the cause is. Otherwise there are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no monogram removals, and no breaks.

The tongs are 5 3/8 inches long.

The weight is 34.7 grams or 1.2 ounces.
