MCM Black Man Head Bust 7in Sculpture Pottery Redware Terracotta Clay SMJ 1952. This awesome bust was probably made of Sewer Pipe/ Tile Clay (Redware, Terracotta). Sewer Pipe Folk Art Pottery which were made by the workers at the end of the day in pipe factories in the Midwest and Northeast. Left over clay was used to make whimsical items for the kids, or frequently caricatures of the boss or co-workers. The Sewer Tile factories were most active from buying 1890 to 1950 or so. This is a apart of Americana Folk Art. This is an awesome sculpted Bust of a black man. It is signed SMJ ‘52 and measures: 9”H x 6”W x 7”L. Very heavy! Weighs 11 lbs Condition: There is a chip in the front base and some minor chipping all over exposing the clay. It has a beautiful patina and the chipping just adds to it.
