Product Name: Hakata Urasaki buying
Vintage Hakata Urasaki Dolls Japanese Old Man and Woman. Wearing traditional buying Kimono. The Male Figure measures: 9.25" Tall x 6.5" Wide x 7.25" Deep. The Female Figure measures: 9.0" Tall x 6.25" Wide x 5.5" Deep. Some very slight vintage wear. See all photos for full description. The two Hakata dolls are most probably from the modern heyday (1950-55), when seven artisan studios in the Fukoaka area of Japan crafted (one artist from mold to finish). They were Sato, Mimasu, Kinkodo, Urasaki, Craftsman, Original Hakata Doll and Hakata Doll Association. There is no hang tag, stamp or label so it is difficult to say which of the studios made the two dolls. Hakata dolls are low fired ceramics with a bisque finish.
