This is a mortar hand-carved on Andean Caliza stone. Shamans use mortars to grind incense and herbs for sprinkling onto charcoal or to prepare medicaments used in healing ceremonies. The Andean people used it on their tables to make them on the heights of the mountains in gratitude to Pachamama (mother earth). As you can see in the pictures, the mortar has a carved head of an Andean puma, a Hampatu toad, and the Incan calendar around the edge of the mortar.
